Take it away in Dingle…
2020 – a year that we’ll never forget. Have you ever stopped for a minute and actually thought about how we have changed the way we live? It all has sort of become the new normal and we keep going on with our lives, trying to keep our minds busy so as not to think to much about how strange this all is. We adapt to the new guidelines by the government and move on… but it is a tough time for everyone and it is amazing to see how creative people and businesses have become and adapted to all this.
Like many others, restaurants have suffered a lot and still are. Many came up with new ideas and adapted their menu to a takeaway style. ‘Takeaway’ is not only a burger and chips meal anymore, today many well renowned restaurants are offering this service, so you can bring their unique flavours home and enjoy a delicious meal at your kitchen table.
While we are slowly starting to get some more freedom to move with most retail shops opening up last Monday and with the possibility to travel all over in our county, there are some great restaurants in Dingle that are open for business, some for a while and some just recently. We still won’t eat in until June 29th, so if you are craving a good meal with some of the best local fresh ingredients (and you are tired of cooking!) here’s where to go in Dingle…while staying safe and enjoying fantastic food.
Solas Tapas & Wine Bar, Strand Street
Every ingredient and flavour is carefully thought and developed into delicious tapas. From crispy croquettes to spiced chickpeas, and seaweeds, local black pudding and plenty more tasty treats in the Solas Tapas Bento Boxes – Spanish influenced tapas with the freshest of Irish produce locally sourced. Call to order and follow them on Instagram, you’ll have to try it out!
Doyle’s Seafood Restaurant, John Street
Bringing some of Doyle’s elegance home with the freshest of seafood magically turned into delicious dishes – mussels, prawns, squid, lobster, crab…and fantastic meat dishes too! You pick, you collect and you can add a takeaway cocktail to your meal too! Check them out on facebook for the weekly menu and the exact days of the week that they are open (usually Fri, Sat, Sun, Tue, Wed).
Land to Sea, Main Street
Open Thursday to Sunday with their new authentic Mexican Takeaway service. Tacos, fajitas, chilli con carne with fantastic local produce. Only available until the end of the month for collection. Can’t wait to try it out…with a Michelin 2020, it is hard to go wrong. Call to order!
The Fish Box, Green Street
Oh my, I love their prawn scampi. And everything else that is in their Fish Box – perfectly battered fish and chips with lots of family love. There are also salads and curries, spring rolls and kebabs, and all with the best of local seafood…so I would definitely keep an eye on their menu and for more creative options on Instagram. You can order through their app or simply give them a call.
For outside of town, there is Quinn’s Bar, Tigh Ui Chuinn in Ventry open for collections usually on weekends. Local crab and lobster or a beautiful beef burger to collect in Ventry, if you are nearby. Pizza lovers, Gregory’s Garden with Forge Wood Fired Pizza in Castlegregory is back open! Absolutely fabulous pizza – one of the best ones I have ever had in Kerry. They might also deliver to Dingle and drop off in Tralee too. Get your order in early!
If you are in town during the day, grab a nice coffee at Bean in Dingle and perhaps a lovely pastry. My Boy Blue is also open for coffee and some lunch takeaway options on weekends. For a healthy treat and delicious vegan food, get a grub from Thyme Out‘s Deli… and keep an eye out on Strand Street for ice cream.
The Dingle Peninsula is usually buzzing with people. Pubs and restaurants would be full at this time of the year. We all can’t wait for those times to come back and enjoy the amazing food that this little town offers, but for now I wouldn’t give up and if you are in the area you can still enjoy some great Dingle food to bring home.
